I do like a film about nuns, but none is more stylish and disturbing than the wonderful Black Narciscus
Made in an unbelievable 1947, it tells the tale of a group of nuns who come to open a school and hospital high up a mountain in the Himalayas
The unceasing wind saps their vitality, their faith is also sorely tested by the culture clash and and carnal desires. Sister Clodagh (Deborah Kerr) has to seek help from cynical British government agent Mr. Dean (David Farrar), the owner's agent and it is then that it all starts to go wrong...
This film is visually stunning, with saturated colours and a strangely claustrophbic feeling that keeps you riveted
The film won Oscar's for best cinematography by Jack Cardiff and best art direction by Alfred Junge and it is not hars to see why. Again if you have not seen this, seek it out soon. You will see many stylish familiar faces, who are so young you can scarce believe your eyes...
Oooh sister! if looks could kill...
