Firstly let me begin by apologising profusely for this probably dull, definitely not fashion related and absolutely random and ranting post about everything and nothing all at the same time. So, should you have no interest in such posts, move along...
Last night I was DJing a night that was new to me, I was terribly excited as I was going to be able explore the harder side of my music collection - lots of Green Velvet, Luke Solomon, Derek Carter and acid house a plenty - heavenly! I was lucky enough to be given this night as the DJ who had it prior to me heard me play on my usual residency evening and actually relinquished his night accepting that I was more suited to the crowd.
WHAT FRIGGIN' CROWD?? A night full of drunk office girls asking for stuff 'with any singing in it?" - a night where techno music is to be expected!! Then, halfway through my now flowing set (I had now set my mind to playing some scary assed techno to scare the drunk office girls away), some man came and took away the mixer! Unplugged it and off he went to give it Andrew Bloody Weatherall (who admittedly is far more deserving of the mixer that I). Of course I was given a replacement, but by that time I was being stared at like I'd stole the mixer myself! So, not good - I DON'T like being stared at.
Secondly, after a christmas and new year of having this EVIL viral flu thing - two days ago it began to appear it's ugly head AGAIN and it's back!!! And I feel rotten and not a little cross!
BUT, there is good to come of all things bad. I recently was turned onto this Iqons things, via Susie Bubble and the lovely Winona over at Daddy Likey. I wasn't sure what it was all about as I have no interest in the likes of MySpace, which just seems full of random people showing pictures of themselves on holiday. So I tentatively checked out this Iqons things and it's actually AMAZING!
For those who don't know what it is, and if you're like me a bit scared of the old interweb thing (which is shameful considering I work in a company who's main business is web design and development, and I'm the lone print designer), it's basically a network of wonderfully creative people who have something valuable to share - fashion designers, editors, illustrators, DJ and producers, magazines, graphic designers and even humble bloggers like us. Once I sussed out what went in those "wee boxes" next to your photo (are you hearing this Winona?), it's the most EXCITING thing ever (apart from our blog of course!)
Basically you invite people onto your entourage who's profile seems interesting, and you get invites from people who think you seem interesting! I'm truly gobsmacked! I got invites!! My first was a DJ/Remixer/Producer who'd DJed at shows for the likes of Preen (my DREAM job!) and then I got invited by a well known and hugely respected Chicago DJ and producer, Chip-e!!! Me! A wee lass from Glasgow! I got invites from others who are doing great work, like Play who left a lovely comment on our blog (who has been added to Friends Of The Kingdom list, so check her out), and I invited a designer I'd blogged about ages ago - Lie Sang Bong and even Anne Sofia Back - and they accepted! I know I'm gushing here, but really, where else can you be amidst of such talented people, and yes, sometimes I look at everyone else's work and do feel totally inferior to them, but every single person I have invited onto my entourage, I was inspired by their work and what they do.
It also means, if they allow, I will feature talented individuals on this blog from Iqons, as some of these people have to be shared. So look out for that in coming months. You're going to see a whole lot of great people and if you haven't done the whole Iqons things, I suggest you do it IMMEDIATELY! Queen Marie, I suggest YOU do this (your Queen is an exceptionally talented photographer of architecture) right away.
And in order to tackle my looming plague, I have taken my own personal cure which should sort me right out - two Valium and two Anadin Ultra - but don't try this at home kids (my neighbour, the very lovely Dr Jo and owner of Tana the dog the best chocolate lab in the world, would be horrified if I told her this!). And Breakfast At Tiffany's is on the telly - my most favourite ever film, so it's not all bad.
