With the rain starting to fall last night, the snow is starting to turn to gritty black slush. Looking at it today, reminded me of a glorious ring by the wonderfully talented Catalina Brenes.
Sometime you just know by looking at someone's work, that if you were to meet them in real life you would get on like a house on fire. I feel like that about Catalina.
Inspired by nature, growth, death and rebirth, her work feels so joyful and instinctive. I would happily wear almost every single piece she creates.
Catalina was born in Costa Rica, then lived in Florence for five years before moving to Berlin in 2012.
Her travels and journey have had a unique inpact on her work. She explains her inspiration and work saying - "Over the last three years, I have been constantly searching for the absolute essence in my work: my pieces should speak by themselves. I am inspired by nature, not by it's beauty, but it's constant reminder of today. My biggest aim is to remain in time, but most of all that my work can belong to any precise time"
If I had to choose a favourite, I would go with this gold creation above. It is like the flecks you see, even with your eyes closed when you have been staring too long at the bight sun.
Although let's be honest, we can't rely on sunshine in dreich old Scotland, maybe that's why I love it so much.
