I have featured Dundee born designer Hayley Scanlan on here before and in June 2012, the talented young designer received the Young Designer of the Year award at the Scottish Fashion Awards. She has since set up her own studio in her hometown, where she continues the growth of her new label.
Scanlan launched her label in 2011, but this year saw her also create her diffusion line, HS, which takes some of the key elements of her mainline collection but simplified and made overall much more youthful.
The striped and bright pink pieces are by far my favourites in the collection. You can never go wrong with bright pink crushed velvet with studs. I absolutely love these pieces.
Whilst her mainline collection focuses heavily on print, which she actually creates herself, HS focuses on more on texture and block colour with embossed snakeprint, stripes and velvet taking centre stage.
Sometimes diffusion lines, though good in the sense that they are usually much more affordable, can be a much too watered down, limper version of the mainline collection but in the case of HS, this stands alone as a label in itself and, even though it has obvious nods to the mainline, it doesn't feel all that derivative.
This is a great little stand alone label, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if someone like ASOS snapped this up very soon.
