Modern means different things to different people.
I don't always find it easy to explain what I mean by it but I know it when I see it!
For me, the new asos black is a perfect lesson in modern.
Using new materials in a relaxed way to create perfectly wearable, perfectly lovely clothes.
With a first time venture into print, S/S ’12 sees ASOS Black collaborate with Central Saint Martins MA graduate Lauren McCalmont across a concise edit of eleven dresses. Developed from archive prints, the collection takes in a mismatched patchwork of abstract roses, graphic stripes and overblown floral camo prints, whilst splashes of neon and metallic rubber trim cocoon dresses, flatform sandals and boxy canvas clutch bags.
Having previously worked with LFW designers such as Peter Pilotto and Thomas Tait,Lauren is excited to preview this collection to a wider marketplace and explained the collection saying - ‘My signature is multi-layered prints, mixing graphic shapes with handwritten and painted elements. ‘The main focus for the collection was to make each dress individual, hand-printed and multi-layered. The references were ’70s graphic design and graffiti.’
Her own personal fave is the rose-stripe dress, which was reworked from an archive piece. ‘I wanted to make a large-scale placement using a mixture of textures. It’s a digital print with writing printed on top.’

The details include: a high neckline and capped sleeves, contrast piped seams, a tulip skirt with side seam pockets and a split vent to the reverse and an open back with cut-out detailing and a concealed zip fastening. The dress has been designed with a knee length and form fitting cut.
ASOS BLACK Halter Dress In Print
This dress by ASOS BLACK has been crafted from lightweight chiffon. The details include: a hand drawn digital print design with heat press foil detailing, a v-neckline with a waterfall frill through the front and an exposed zip fastening, a fitted waist and cross back utility straps with adjustable fastenings to the reverse. The dress has been cut with a relaxed fit and a midi length.

This dress by ASOS BLACK has been crafted in aertex sports mesh with a hand drawn and digitally reworked foil print . The details include: a high neckline with a contrasting block panel, short sleeves, a lantern skirt with a fitted waist and split vent to the reverse and an open back with cut-out detailing and a concealed zip closure. The dress has been designed with a slim fitted body and a knee length cut.
