We all need a happy place.
Somewhere we can go to escape the stresses and strains of every day life...
For some of us it's an imaginary place.
Perhaps a desert island, where we can picture ourselves lying on a deserted shore as the lapping waves, wash our cares away.
For some of us, it is an actual place.
A special holiday destination or a weekend we spent away with a loved one.
For me, it's got to be good old TK Maxx
Scarves and sunglasses as far as the eye can see. Ah Bliss.
The minute I step through those doors, I stop thinking about what is worrying me and start thinking about lamps or cushions or new wellington boots.
Over the years I have spent countless hours looking at bags that I will never buy or never use. But that doesn't matter. I'm distracted. I'm happy.
Of course my bank manager sees things rather differently, because I don't just look at things. I buy things. Lots of things...
My local store, the East Kilbride Branch at Kingsgate, has just had a rather swanky make over including the most glorious air conditioning.
I was in on Wednesday night with the Grande Empress and the stock they have is amazing.
This Saturday morning sees the official re-opening with the first 200 customers receiving a £10 voucher.
I predict it's going to be bedlam.
It also struck me on Wednesday night that it must be a pretty happy place to work too.
The staff at my store have worked there for years and are genuinely friendly and helpful.
Which is a rare and wonderful thing these days..
