It seems many designers are choosing to create a short film to either replace or accompany a lookbook. It's great to see the clothes in motion and often, even if it's just one garment, with a soundtrack and specific location, the mood the designer was trying to get across is often more successful on film than it would have been with a simple procession of models on a catwalk.
I saw this on Twisted Lamb and really loved it - it's the film for designer Georgia Hardinge, to accompany her AW10 collection, and it's called Cage. It reminds me in some respects of old heavy metal music videos with a pulsating crowd and gothic setting. I also love the industrial version of Get Into The Groove by Madonna which plays throughout.
I think the film does an amazing job at supporting the collection because until the very last dress, I didn't real get such a dark feeling from the collection at all.
Whilst there is a theme of being incased or caged in some respects, often very, very subtly, running through the collection, it wasn't immediately apparent until I saw the film, and upon seeing it I understood a little more about the overall mood the designer was trying to convey.
