I do have a bit of a fascination for birds, which is not surprising considering how much I like feathers, but the form of the bird is stunning to really look at. Whenever I see sparrows sitting on the window sill I want to reach out and pick them up, gently cupping their tiny little bodies.
When I was little I used to draw birds quite a lot, their heads mostly as I liked the way the head joined the beak and the varying shapes of beaks. I would also sit and draw wings in great detail, enjoying the meticulous shading involved in capturing the overlap of each feather.
It's for her study of birds, among other subjects, I've been entranced by the work of artist Christina Empedocles.
I especially love the way she prints out her drawings of birds, cuts them out and layers them up to create these glorious 3 dimensional pieces. Beautiful

I share your fascination. I paint and draw birds a lot, i'm not sure why. You can see some of my painting on my blog.

I find those pictures a bit spooky to be honest, like the birds are going to gouge her eyes out any minute. War Of The Worlds stylee.
I like birds, as long as they are not doing any manic, freaky flapping in my personal space. Bit of a wuss when it comes to that. I think it may be correlated to the time when a bird flew in through in my bedroom window, and then spazzed out because it could not suss the way back out.
Get away from me freaky bird!
QM, Got the new Jeff album have ee? 70% good I reckon.

I've been lurking/watching this blog for awhile, but I had to comment on this post.
I love birds too~ They're so beautiful and graceful, the way their feathers are shaped on their bodies, they're amazing creatures. I like them so much, I have a pet cockatiel. Tho, I think once you get a pet bird and find out how troublesome they are somtimes, you like birds a little bit less. ;p
Anyway, lovely pictures~

Watching sparrows is like watching your own personal comedy show. They are hilarious. Worth the outlay on the fatballs all day long.

I like birds but was never encourage to take an interest in feathered friends as my mum is petrified of them. These would terrify her.

I remember Christina; her work was on display in a local gallery a while back. 'Transcontinental', in particular, is stunning in person.
