Shame on me Givenchy...

There is no easy way to say this.

So I will just come right out and say it -

I presumed Hubert de Givenchy was dead.

Dead as a door nail and had been for many a long year!

Happily he is not! He is 82 years old and I trust living a lovely life in retirement.

I don't know why I thought he was no longer with us. 

I also don't know why I also always presume that designers are all tiny and titchy like Alaia...

Givenchy himself is 6ft 6inches.

Forgive my hubris Hubert!

Once you go 'behr'...

I suspect that once you go 'behr' there's no going back!

Queen Michelle and I are no strangers to popping things on the top of our heads. The more fanciful the better. We accept that there's no gain without pain. Because it would be pretty safe to say that after about twenty minutes every headband or headpiece makes it feel like your head is stuck in a vice...

Every headband in the world, except, apparently those made by Jennifer Behr .

Quite simply this is the most comfortable headband I have ever had*. I don't know why!  It just seems more head-shaped, flexible and so so comfortable. In fact it is like having a little cloud on your head...

Ok a cloud might be pushing it a bit, but seriously, it feels like its behrly there**...

Me and sunglasses! 

What can I tell you! 

It's a sickness I tell you, a sickness.

Too many is never enough...

My new sunshine jacket had me thinking that maybe I needed some sunshine glasses to go with it.

That thought led me to Mykita.  Oh sweet mother of God Mykita...

This is the Limited edition ‘Franz’ mirrored gold aviator style sunglasses produced by Mykita in collaboration with Bernhard Willhelm. The ‘Franz’ model was inspired by and named after legendary downhill champion Franz Klammer. 

MYKITA was founded 2003 by Harald Gottschling, Daniel Haffmans, Philipp Haffmans and Moritz Krueger. This Berlin-based optical collective are producing glasses so blindingly wonderful, that I would struggle to choose which pair to buy first!

From Russia with love...

Growing up I would routinely insist I was an Irish Princess, had been left on the doorstep by gypsies or was a Russian Princess. The Russian Princess had a lot going for it - summer palaces, winter palaces, Faberge jewels and of course Russian shawls. So you can imagine how pleased I was to find a fabulous vintage shawl last week while thrifting. Huge with jewel like colours, I adore it...

And best of all it goes perfectly with my Jennifer Behr patent orchid headband (more about that on Sunday...)

To the beat of a different drum...

Over the course of the last year, my father, the King, has been marching increasingly to the beat of his own drum. So when he appeared at my back door, earlier this week, ready to put up some wallpaper, I had bought over a year and a half ago, I shouldn't have been too surprised!

I had originally bought it for the bedroom, but instead decided to use it in the top hall...

Looking at it last night, it very much reminds me of the lovely winter bird headpiece Queen Michelle

made for me...

Love The Glove

Waaaay back in 2006 I wrote about label Gloved Up. I have several pairs of their gloves and love that their designs are unique and quirky and take the humble fingerless glove to new heights.

I have a pair of amazing long fingerless gloves that were samples used in an Italian Vogue shoot as well as well as short aertex black gloves which I wear all the time. Time for a new pair methinks.

It was Alicia from Sea of Ghosts who told me that there were video's on the making of Closer by Nine Inch Nails to be found on YouTube, and indeed there are. But this gratuitous one is for the ladies (and some boys I'm sure) - the making of part of the video where Trend is tied up and blindfolded. What's not to love about that? It's Trent. Tied up.

Bring On The Borba Again

I am glad to see that accessories label Borba Margo have updated their site with the latest collection.

Lots more of what we have come to expect from the label, such as their peplum styled belts. Rendered in leather with zips they have toughed the style up for autumn.

The bags are also beautiful and look like they fold into an oversized clutch?

I need another pair of leather gloves/gauntlets like I need hole in my head but, still, these grommeted versions are appealing to me very much.

 

I also wouldn't say no to the ruffled bag

Leather Face

Queen Marie and I may stylistically occupy entirely different poles but what we do have in common in a shared love of theatrical clothes, well more precisely, the stuff we wear on our heads.

I love big feathers and masks, she loves antlers and flowers and whilst neither of us are going to pitch up to the supermarket in them, there is an undeniable sense of satisfaction to be gained from just wearing such adornments around the house. I watch telly in mine, or do the washing (although my Prince might argue that I never do the washing but he is of course wrong).

With unemployment creeping ever closer I know I am going to be digging out my masks and headdresses on a more regular basis as I want sitting on my arse in the house being totally broke to be a slightly enjoyable experience. So there will dressing up aplenty. Plus, answering the door to the postman whilst wearing some such item does give me a chuckle.

When I was little I had a brimming trunk which had nothing but hats and face masks inside. Everyday was halloween. I remember my mum having to wrestle me out of a Planet of The Apes mask when it was tea time as I never took it off (it had hinged jaw for god's sake so when I talked it moved!). I was actually convinced that people thought I was a real human/ape hybrid when I was out. My poor mum must have been mortified dragging me to the shops every day with my face in some mask or another.

Anyway, for a while I lusted after those stupid Luella bat girl glasses for the purposes of adding to my mask collection. Clearly too expensive for the sake of a bit of costume so I trawled Etsy instead for an alternative.

I have been listening to Nine Inch Nails loads (thanks JP!!) and watching the video for Closer (it's incredible, however the bit with the monkey upsets me alot. I had forgotten about it until I watched it). But the image of Trent Reznor tied up wearing a fetching mask is quite lovely and is the inspiration for my Etsy purchase.

It's from this seller and is a snip at $35. It might not be an ape but it'll do a turn. Meow!!
