As much as I love the theatre and drama of corsets and feathers, I also take to the other end of the spectrum quite frequently, into the stark and minimal territory, almost to the point of severity.
I do severe very well as I have a severe face and severe hair but it's a look which, on me, can be quite scary too. I am of course fully aware of this which is why I have a tendency to try and temper severity with texture. As much as I am often percieved mostly as a bit "goth" or "rock" which, by my own admission, I probably am, I dislike clothes that don't have soul to them. Therefore when I do severe, often not intentionally, then I try to make up for the lack of soul in the ensemble by softening it with shades of the same colour or, as I said, texture. A tactile outfit, in my humble opinion, is one with soul.
But I recognise there is a dividing line between severe and minimal. Minimal, whilst clearly simple in silhouette, maintains a softness with small but defineable details that stop it crossing into severe.
Munich designer Ayzit Bostan does minimal beautifully. Everything is so simple and clean, but with a drape here or a chain there, the silhouette is softened and elegant.
Loving his "I won't share you" t-shirt.
