In the 80's, along with many other musical phases, I went through my obligatory Goth phase, mostly due to the fact I was desperately in love with an uber-goth called Tam Mulreany. It was 1987, I was 14, he was 20 and I wanted him. My skinny little goth body had made it it's mission to 'have' Tam Mulreany.
I was in my local pub, Hot Gossip (classy joint as you can tell by the name), with my friend Theresa and He was there in all his leather trousered loveliness. We were all sitting together chatting and after a few pints of snakebite and some vodka's talk turned to me and him. It became clear Tam wanted me too. He helpfully offered up his mates house for us to use for the 'event'. We left the pub and went to his mates house in silence. When we got there I'll never forget it as he put on Sisters of Mercy.
I loved Sisters of Mercy and I think I had Patricia Morrison to thank for my being with Tam Mulreany that night. I had a major girl crush on her, so I had her big hair, her eyeliner and red lips and all the goth boys loved Patricia Morrison. So she helped me snare Tam. On came This Corrosion and Tam towered over me in all his 20 year old manliness, no top on with just his battered leather trousers. I looked at him for ages. Then a switch went off in my head and I suddenly realised how much of a wanker he was for actually being willing to sleep with a 14 year old. I got out of there quick smart with my heart thudding in my chest. I never saw him again and I never went back to Hot Gossip for another 2 years. By that time he was long gone. I was a punk by then anyway and sneered at goths.
So I am here listening to Sisters of Mercy feeling so happy that I never slept with Tam Mulreany. But mostly I am remembering what a bloody amazing band Sisters of Mercy were...and how hot Patricia Morrison was.

I love Sisters of Mercy too much for my own good.

I saw the Sisters of Mercy live some months ago, it was pretty cool but no girl. :P
Anyway, congrats for leaving the 20th year-old pulsating and wondering "why the hell did she leave?"

well I never knew she married Dave Vanian.
High-light of my teenage years, meeting her at a Depeche Mode gig, bonding over our porn boots and getting her autograph.

First Philip Lewis, Ian Astbury etc., now Patricia and Andrew! I love you, Queen Michelle.
O Andrew... I saw them this spring and he looked like Kermit the frog. Memento mori n all that.

Another ex-goth checking in! While goth fashion was a mere phase for me (I now wear Ralph Lauren), my musical taste still hovers around death rock and the gloomier side of post-punk.

I followed the same progression -- goth for a few months because my friends were too, and then I stumbled on a copy of Maximumrocknroll in an independent, "alternative" clothing store called the Black Cat in downtown San Diego (my dad drove me there!) and I realized that I was no wilting goth, but truly punk.

I love it when you put on a song and it totally gives a flashback of some silly moment back in the past. All that nostalgia coming back, you know. I love love love Sisters of Mercy too!
