When it comes to makeup I have a very basic approach - get some foundation and blot it where I have red bits, lots of concealer, liquid eyeliner, black mascara and lipbalm. I like to wear bright eyeshadow but have yet to find a way to actually keep it on my eyes due to my ridiculously oily skin which makes everything slide off in a matter of hours, even with primer.
I began wearing liquid eyeliner from a vey early age and dare I say it - it became a bit of a signature look for me in my teens. Watching Marilyn Monroe films and being in awe of her breathtaking face cemented my love of black liquid liner.
No-one showed me how to properly apply makeup, with brushes and such like, and I have never bothered to find out. But I was on Flying Saucer yesterday and Selina had posted some makeup tutorials that were online. I clicked out of curiousity and was actually really impressed by the tips. It was Pixiwoo's tutorial's I found especially good. She is a professional makeup artist and she creates looks based on famous people, like Marilyn Monroe.
I was so impressed I went home and tried a few of the looks. This is the Sophie Loren tutorial. I love cat-eye makeup and would love to have long almond shaped eyes, sadly I don't but her eyeliner tips certainly go some way to achieving the look.
I am sporting some Marilyn styled eyeliner today. No eyeshadow or anything but I would definitely try it for a night out where having it on my face for few hours is all that's required. It's also made me want to try out a foundation brush although I would never apply foundation all over my face as I'd imagine it's feel like a mask and it would settle into any fine lines I have, but for the small areas I do apply it it might help get a nice even application.
I also decided to cut my fringe last night. Queen Marie are you reading this and are scared right now? (she hates when I get my hair cut, but especially when I start hacking at myself!) I decided the Dracula/Spock thing wasn't working for me at all so I took the sides up further and created a curved fringe instead, which is what I wanted when I initially went to the hairdresser. It's much sharper, severe and a bit 50's, which is exactly what I'm into just now.
