It's been quite hot here in Glasgow for the past wee while. I mean the kind of hot where I need only wear one jacket as opposed to several. We're not talking skin burning levels of heat or anything, but in Glasgow if it isn't raining and/or blowing a gale then that's akin to tropical.
Contrary to most though, the imminent hot weather of summer leaves me cold. Those kind of too hot days where I am forced to remain indoors because going out in my usual attire would result in heatstroke; days where your only other option to is to go out with bare legs which I pretty much refuse to do, unless it's only from the knee up. With this weather Scrouge attitude it's no surprise I'm looking at knitwear in April.
An email from Jennifer Jarvis popped into the Kingdom, and possibly many other kingdoms too, which just said:
With needles the width of big sticks,
She would knit all day,
Won’t care what you say,
Just to show the world her knit tricks.
Give me a lymeric and I give you my heart! Especially when it says her knitting needles are the size of big sticks!
Jennifer studied at de Montfort University and graduated in 2008. She has since created knitwear for the wonderful Felder Felder for their SS09 collection. Not bad for someone so fresh out of the box.
Of course the one that got me all excited was the most impractical one, well impractical for April anyway - the massive chunky knitted cardigan.
When I looked at some of her designs I had to squint up close to see if they were actually knitted as she treats them in such a way that the weave is very fine and can be manipulated into soft, pretty pleats.
Jen also has a blog which features some other very inspirational knitters. Maybe they should all start a kind of avant garde knitted circle!

I like it! =)
I'm having problems with the weather right now, too! =P

Probably not the best time to be releasing her eponymous high-end winter knit line, what with another 5 years of global recession on the horizon, but why not ay! I'd have liked to see that pin-stripe dress without the Grey jersey piece underneath. Guessing this is her graduate line? Intriguing, but even Clare Tough & Mark Fast seriously struggle for accounts.

Those are some beautiful pieces, though unfortunately I am one of those craving the sun and heat. But I think they'd be perfect for Autumn. Of course every time I've been to Glasgow (this includes summers) I ended up dressing like it was Autumn anyway, so I might have to see these out before I head there next month...

So lovely! Try as I may, I still cannot knit. I am knit-challenged. Sigh, one day perhaps. For now I am content to envy/admire artists such as Jennifer.

I cant knit either. I tried knitting a scarf once but the longer it got the thinner it got so by the end I basically just had a big long triangle!

I like her sort of a blog, there's interesting item of Louise Goldin creative process and other behind-the-scene facts.

Lovely, just lovely. Sort of the wrong time of year for these, though. If it were Fall, I'd be craving them big time right about now...

Impressive even!

I love to knit and am always working on something or dreaming up another project. So I love this post! That last chunky cardigan is so beautiful, such interesting angles. Might have to figure out how to do something like that for myself that wouldn't completely overwhelm me. Loved her blog too, thanks!

Thankyou for posting this. It's been quite useful reading your viewers comments. Note to self: wait until appropriate season to show collection.
It's quite confusing when catwalk designers have just/are still showing their autumn winter 2009-10 collections. But then I guess I should just do the opposite.
