I have mentioned Nicholas Kirkwood many many times on this blog. I can't help it, I Iove his work.
Imagine my utter despair when an email drops into the Kingdom telling us about a Nicholas Kirkwood sample sale...in London, of course. Oh woe is me, why or why don't designers venture north of the border every once in a while and let us poor Scots have a shot at their shockingly cut down prices?!
I guess I shall have to live vicariously through you lucky Londoners as you scoop some super bargainous Kirkwood. I promise not to hate you. Much.

oh me oh my, do you know if you need an invite to go?

No one ever has good sales in my town, either. It's always two hours north, in L.A. Let's cry in our soup together.

I recently bought the purple pair right in the centre of your heart. I love their platforms so much, as well as the purple snakeskin heels...

Aw thanks for the offer Shini and Kirsty, sadly I don't have that kind of cash immediately at hand. Oh well, maybe next year! But good luck to all those who go and I hope you scoop something amazing.

Doesn't it just suck to live in a metropolis that's big enough to make you deeply happy with its cultural offerings, but small enough to be omitted from the best sample sales? We Minneapolitans feel your pain.

funny, I went to the Swarowski lounge in Great Marlborough street and they said they didn't have a Kirkwood sale...I have a creeping suspicion that they don't want anyone snooping around up there? I thought it was public!

I snapped up the most wicked pair of Kirkwoods at the sale for £50!! I got there quite late on Friday but they still have a fiar amount of stock. If only I have more money, I would have come away with so much!

Natty, I am just going to say it - I AM VERY JEALOUS!!! If I saw you in the street I'd wrestle you to the ground and the shoes off of your feet!

i went along friday evening but no much was left in size 6 or above the only ones in my size left were still £250.
How do you find out about these sample sales?
Posted by: Pania | Saturday, 13 December 2008 at 19:04
Popped along Friday lunchtime and got my hands on the only pair of fuchsia cut-out platforms there - the exact pair I went there for - that just happened to be the perfect fit!
For those buying their first pair off the net, N.K's runs a full size small.
Natty, the cheapest pair on the shop floor at 1pm were priced at £125, wonder where the £50 pair were hiding!

The freezing rain was so bad that I almost didn't go today. I was kicking myself that I forgot to go yesterday and assumed everything nice would be gone... plus I don't have much money to spare right now (a commenter on Susie's blog said all the nice shoes were £150+ ...nuh-uh, even if made of GOLD). But of course I was too curious, and wound up making the hour-long trip at about 4pm.
Thank God I did. The shoes were helpfully arranged in order of size, and though there weren't that many left (and very few with his signature cutaway platforms/'wings'), I still found 3 wedges for £50: some very understated white peep-toe slingbacks (not the most impressive but still pretty sweet); killer blocky taupe/brown platforms; and my piece-de-resistance, a pair of 'suspension' black wedges that were much more Kirkwood-esque (the slingback elastic on one shoe needs fixing - it's barely hanging by a thread - but I still thought it was worth it. I'll just have to find a handy cobbler somewhere in London - any suggestions perchance?)
There were, of course, 'ones that got away' - the brilliant, made-for-me lilac and silver sculptures that fit ridiculously glove-like on my feet, but at £250 were just too much... and the absolument drool-worthy black leather knee-highs, which felt Cinderella-perfect on the feet but just would NOT zip up halfway up my stocky calves (dammit!)
All the same, I almost pissed my panties ('scuse my French) when they told me everything was £25 off the sale price. I bought the 3 wedges for £75 and walked on air all the way home.

i turned up first thing on thursday and blew £200 on the pair i'd desperately wanted.... oops.
can't believe there were some going for £50 (or £25!) by the end.
