I declare it so! I can forgo the fringing when slashing can be bought for a reasonable-ish price via the high street. Topshop have earned some major brownie points by slashing a dark purple velvet jacket with superb results.
The idea of slicing into such a perceived luxurious fabric is delicious. I wouldn't attempt to cut velvet myself as it has a tendency to fray quite easily, so I am curious to see how Topshop have stopped this from happening. Perhaps the process of laser cutting seals the edges so fraying isn't a problem. Either way I'd get endless wear from this jacket. But I'm sure the Job Centre did not intend on me spending the money they give me on trashed velvet!
