Sequins And Shells

I had to go into town today to pay some bills and since I was out I thought I'd torment myself by popping into a few shops.

I took a wander through Frasers and perhaps it was the Codrydamol giving me a fuzzy feeling but when I came across these Miu Miu shoes I had to pick them up and coo over them for ages.

MiumiushoesQueen Marie is rather perturbed by my new found interest in sequins, "cutting her grass" as her granny would say, and I myself don't even know why I like these shoes. Sequins on legs is one thing but on shoes, well, that's getting into strictly come dancing territory, but when I picked them up and studied their deliciously sculpted heel, which looks like a shell, it did indeed stir some strange desire in me.

Perhaps it's just a need I have right now to indulge myself in beautiful luxe fabrics and materials. But I also think with these particular shoes the pretty sequined upper seems rather at odds with the inky black molded heel. Somehow it's a contrast yet it works perfectly. And is it just me or is everyone replacing the word sequin with paillette? I thought paillettes were the huge sequins, but I keep seeing the word used when referring to your common-or-garden wee sequin. Maybe I'm just not up on fashion speak and am woefully uncool.

Of course at over £400 I won't be getting them and I certainly don't think they'd translate too well into high street. Still, it's always nice to dream about possibilities isn't it?

paillette is French for sequin, but in english usage the word does mostly seem to reference (or have referenced) the big ones.

oh, I love those shoes too. found a pair of silver sequin shoes ages ago on sale and totally regret not buying them.

hmmm, yes.. why is it only when the bank account is empty that one is drawn to beautiful expensive wonders...

there are gold sequin heels in topshop!

I think we will see a high street version. I can imagine Topshop or KG doing them rather well.

Sadly I can also imagine really cheap places doing them and just gluing the sequins on, and a rather horrid moulded heel whose black colour chips to reveal the white plastic underneath.

Quite pretty.

I thought these were great too and included them in one of my Fall Favorites posts -

They do have an amazing shape.

They're beautiful, but you can certainly live without them.

I bet everyone's saying "paillette" because it's French. FYI: My French dictionary says they're sequins, doesn't specify size.

I love them too.Think its the heel im attracted to. Miu miu stole my heart with this collection of shoes. They are just darling.
love your blog posts.

Fluevog has a line of high heeled shoes that have a distinct shape of heel and side cut which this pair of Miu Miu shoes emulates, minus the sequins. Fluevog has had this line for at least 2 years, playing with this particular heel shape, and entertaining colours and cuts: fluevog.com

Here in Vancouver, BC, the stylish girlies we have swear by the distinct quality and wear of Fluevogs.

I remembered seeing these shoes in a magazine with a high-street copy. I've scanned the image for you, they are from Matalan (don't know if they are instore yet), it was in the Oct issue of Cosmo, they have also been in Company (I've scanned both pics for you to see). Obviously they don't have the fabulous-ness of the heel, but for £12 you can't really argue!
