So today I had to got to go the Job Shop to hand in my forms and get grilled about the kind of work I should be looking for. The woman brought up some jobs on her sad wee computer that bore no resemblance to anything I do, but she very kindly printed out a job which was making digital copies at Xerox! I thought she was joking. She wasn't.
At least is was lovely crisp, sunny day today so I wore my Russian hat, H&M jacket; Topshop PVC trousers; Jean Pierre Braganza ivory top; DIY patterned top (just seen); Miu Miu bag; Elizaveta necklace and Carvela shoes
Queen Michelle

you are amazing!
good luck with the jobhunt.

It sort of enrages me to know that someone as talented as you cannot find a well-deserved and fulfilling job. Ridiculous!

You forgot to mention the bright red lipstick, it really adds that little extra something to the whole outfit!

Ooh wow, I was thinking of getting the other "framed picture" Elizaveta necklace but I was worried it might look too "heavy" but it doesn't at all, it doesn't appear to be that big so thank you for being my necklace inspo.
I was also just going to wear it with a black dress, tights and brogues but that's given me more outfits to wear it with. ;)

Oh lord, how frustrating. Well, at least you looked fantastic while she was grossly underestimating you ... likely a cold comfort.

My mom has been dealing with the same thing since the unit of the hospital where she works closed a few weeks ago. I try to tell her that it's the agencies job to at least try to find her work, even if it's unsuitable and that she doesn't have to take what they're offering but it's hard.
You look fabulous, regardless.

the hat is wonderful!

Oh I love the Russian hat and your raising of the bar dress wise at job cebtre is to be commended.

I'll admit Im not sure how I feel about wearing designer garb to the Job centre. As someone that has had to do the dole queue shuffle on occasion the thought of someone turning up looking so fabulous would have made me feel even more of a loser but at the same time, knowing what a crap experience the whole thing is, if dressing up makes it more bearable then good for you.
Im still surprised that no one in the fashion industry has snapped you up to work for them though. I can imagine you being perfect in any number of fashion related jobs.
anyway, good luck finding work :-)

The job centre is indeed a great leveler. There are people like me who came from well paid, professional careers who just got shafted by their employers, to people who make a living from claiming benefit.
I kinda like being a bit over the top! Like the mad old lady who gets dressed up to get her pension.
Posted by: Queen Michelle | Monday, 27 October 2008 at 19:38
you remind me so much of irina lazareanu

Love love love! Cream/ivory is incredibly beautiful, sophisticated, chic, and youthful all at once. I suspect that once I grow elderly it's all I'll ever wear! Of course, one day I'll wake up and say to myself, "You know what? As beautiful as ivory is, there are other colors too" and I'll start wearing clashing neon colors and people will stare at me, "that mad old lady." I just realized that we both used the phrase "mad old lady" in our comments, Queen Michelle. :-)

I love these posts, all the same I hope you will not have to do too many of them and that a decent job will come up soon! I have a feeling I'll be heading in that general direction quite soon, I will follow your example, let's rock the dole office!
As for nasty comments [I read the next post before this one] ... fuck them, some people should just get a life!

Oh my god you look so dam good!!! About 10 years ago I was signing on in Govan and I am telling you, if you had walked in looking like that it would have made my week along with making me feel a whole lot better, like a giant ray of styling sunshine!! Lady how on earth are you out of work? Hang in there, they will come to you! Loads a love, Keira xxx
Posted by: Keira | Tuesday, 28 October 2008 at 11:10
I think all of us who are signing on should all appear at the job centres around the world completely dressed up! That would be hilarious!
Kiera - Govan eh? Bet that was fun! I signed on after I graduated for about a month in Maryhill. That was not a good time!
