I Am But A Simple Girl
It's great seeing fully fledged designers' work knowing that there is a chance, even a small one, that you can get your mitts on something they designed. But sometimes seeing someones career develop in it's early stages is even more exciting.
I was looking at the portfolio of conceptual designer Anouk Wipprecht and I can see she will surely go on to do some very interesting work. She is still studying and will complete her studies in 2010, which will be her 10th year (!) of study and hopes to specialise in fashion and technology.
Looking at her work, as much I love the way she uses technology particularly electronics, I particularly loved her Simple Girl vs Robot Girl collection. I don't see any electronics per se, so I suppose it's the fabric and concept which relate to her main passion. Either way I think I'd wear every single piece she designed.
I would bite her hand off for this purple quilted cape!
Seeing the way she integrates technology into her clothes it does make me think about how we might be dressing in the future. LCD lights in dresses may seem like stuff of science fiction and whilst I feel it's a tad gimmicky for me personally, I like the idea of exploring fabrics previously only used for scientific purposes.
Conceptual thinking may not be based entirely in reality, but it's the visionary approach of these conceptual thinkers, who question the 'norm', that usually give the most interesting results when approached to create something wearable.
I hope that Anouk will move within all areas of fashion and not just limit herself to the exploration of fashion and technology, as I think her ideas will translate incredibly well. If it was good enough for Hussein...

Snap! I was trying to put together a post about future fashion last week (you ever have that now I want to write about it but can't get anything out in words problem..?) it was put into my head by watching Star Trek Voyager and thinking about Kes's costumes - one of the few characters in a Trek series to appear regularly but not wear a uniform. She has some interesting clothes; working texture and layering in a way Susie @ Style Bubble would probably approve of - but possibly want to take further.
Anyway, I never got further than thinking about it but it's nice to know I wasn't alone in my pondering, even if mine was prompted by a more geeky source than yours!
Wipprecht definitely looks like one to watch too, I love the shapes she's playing with.

if you're interested in technology you should look at a designer called Elena Corchero, she integrated technology into fashion garments and accessories in a way which is really sensitive.

I love it when designers break out of the box and integrate the unexpected. These looks are all unexpected in one way or another, and I love that. Not to mention there are silver leggings.
