I never thought Aldo would be inspired by Martin Margiela but when I popped into the shop this morning I saw a pair of boots that are indeed inspired by the label.
I saw the real deal in Selfridges in London when I was there in September, but at over £500 they sure weren't cheap. I had been hoping someone would do a good version of them...and Aldo have come up trumps. The downside is I had to get them. Doh!
They are surprisingly architectural with a half-wedge, nice pointed toe and made of lovely soft suede. They are also a good height for stomping around town.
I may have been very naughty buying them but it could have been worse - I could have bought the real thing!

That's it - look at the bright side :)
they look fabulous
love the wide opening at the top

now if only someone would do a really good copy of those margielas that jane from sea of shoes wears so well...

Wow, I can't believe that Aldo went for inspiration from such an avant-garde designer.

Yes, I was looking at them too here in Toronto. I shouldn't be buying anything at all, but I may give into the temptation... what I really need are galoshes or wellies - we had snow today, and soon I'll be up to my knees in the horrible Toronto slush. Aaargh!

Very cool! I'm sure you'll come up with some super duper ways to wear them, other than with those awesome leggings and shiny top. Good eye!

Wow! I am completely taken aback by those boots! Aldo's really been taking cues from the runway these past seasons, last spring they had these Marni-inspired Koudougou platform sandals that were fairly amazing.
By the way, I've been shamelessly taking cues from your DIYs and doing experiments of my own (this time, with leggings). Just thought I'd let you know.

The older sister of one of my best friends here in Mtl does store design for Aldo, and I think I remember him telling me that they started stepping it up design wise a lot when they entered the European market. They've only been there about 4 years now I think (maybe 5?), and I'm soooo happy they're going for it. The shoe options in Canada are really quite pathetic, and this is one of the only places to get affordable shoes with an edgier look. Here's the silly/great thing though: no one in Canada seems to buy the edgier pieces, so we end up being able to get them on sale, while the ugly rhinestone encrusted strappy sandals fly off the shelves. Soooo backwards!

I find aldo shoes uncomfortable, but they do look very nice, usually, and often seem much pricier than they actually are!
by the way, NICE leggings! I think I say that in response to all your posts but you always have the greatest legwear!

Naughty? I think naught. ha ha.
I think you'd have been naughty if you hadn't spent the d'oh!

Oh, I love the shape of the boots! They look amazing with your leggings too! Great buy...I dream of one day owning the MM sandal/boots *sigh*

I never know what to think of the high street designers who get 'strongly inspired' (cough, cough) by couture designers. Steve Madden is an obvious culprit, but Aldo seems more and more keen on it.
By the by, how expensive are Aldo's shoes in Scotland? Here is Canada (Aldo is from my home town - Montreal), they are known for being rather overpriced for the quality (but their edgy design wins hearts nonetheless).
Oh, and on an unrelated note, would you like to trade links, if you like my blog? http://egregiouslyyours.wordpress.com/

I have the real ones in soft black leather (actually costing less in the states than in London), and they are amazing to look at and surprisingly comfortable. I hope that your aldos are just as comfy. They really do look a lot like the Margielas.

Hey! I've been reading your blog and you have a great entries. I love that you do DIYs and that you update often. I just wanted to note, though, that some of the new links to other blogs that you've put up in your side bar aren't working properly.
