I really don't know what this Roman era obsession came from but I have had it for as long as I could remember. When I was little I remember the Queen Mum loved a good 'biblical epic' and we could often be found sitting in front of the fire on a Sunday afternoon watching Joseph L. Mankiewicz's Julius Caesar. Suffice to say the head of the floor brush often found itself attached to my head by way of a bit of string. Because I did this so often, the brush head was now so loose that it'd fall off whenever she swept the floor. It was the bane of her life!
Needless to say I was chuffed that Queen Marie commented that my latest DIY was very "gladiatorial". It was exactly what I had in mind. I'm not really sure what this DIY actually is. It was born from my love of a harness and other contraptions which go over clothes. I created it using some left over PVC, elastic and a zip and bought some ends of black velvet for a few quid. It has a vaguely Christopher Kane look about it because of the combinations of materials.
Edit: Topshop cuff trousers came, so have tried it with them and added a photo. The trousers are amazing!
