Supersize Me
When it comes to jewellery.
For me it's gotta be BIG. I generally don't faff around with teeny wee delicate trinkets (apart from my very precious Tiffany necklace, bought buy friends of the Kingdom for my 30th - a small but perfectly formed Elsa Peretti heart), I like my jewellery to be big, bold and brash. If I wearing it, then I'm really wearing it. So I am thrilled that this is the season of big, statement neck and wrist pieces. Queen Marie will be pleased since I have dragged her around many shop over the years looking for suitable necklaces and cuffs only to exclaim that potential suitors just weren't "big enough". Yes I'm afraid it's true what they say - size does matter.
The runway showed so many oversized jewels my eyes are in heaven. Pucci sent models down the runway in necklaces and cuffs the size of small buildings.
I think I was perhaps the only person on the planet (apart from Mathew) who actually liked the huge sequined Mathew Williamson cuff Mischa was sporting on this months Elle.
Since I've never been much of a layerer, always preferring to wear one single statement piece where possible, the same goes for my jewellery. I'll never wear a huge necklace and a huge bangle at the same time, no, just one big f**k off jangly item is enough (since the weight of several combined jangly items might render me rooted to spot).
I have gushed about Veronique Leroy's jewellery before, particularly her ball and chain necklace, which I have been thinking about pretty much constantly since I first saw it.
It even prompted me to attempt my own, much smaller ball and chain necklace variant (cue sending the Prince off to B&Q for some industrial sized chain, only to discover I can't actually cut the damn stuff without industrial sized bolt cutters). My second attempt saw me use huge wooden balls which I laboriously stained a nice dark colour, but alas that ended up dismantled since it was so heavy it nearly broke my sternum everytime I wore the damn thing.
Even Mr Jacobs was giving his jewellery some big love too, with added yumminess on account of the art deco feel.
The high street is finally catching on to the 'big is beautiful' mantra and have also supersized their jewels. Topshop's black cuff and wooden tribal/deco necklace will be making their way into my jewellery box very soon.
And as embellishments in all forms are set to stay this season, ASOS have given us a beautiful cuff to match.
If you're still into all things new rave and generally kitschy, then this Tarina Tarantino necklace will get you going.
So there's lots of lovely, big, juicy, statement jewels out there if you choose to supersize the bling!

Love the cuffs in this post - but agree that weight is often the issue with these pieces.

Ouch to sitting on sunglasses - and all those jewels. You'd certainly feel it! PS: Principles have done some very nice statement bib jewels for Autumn...

Yummy big jewelry is amazing, I love the white sphere bangle bracelet. It consumes the wrist and makes the whole outfit feel pulled together.

Welcome dear Nadia! We are most delighted you are enjoying our blog!
Mrs F: I shall be checking out Principles then, since I have some great big necklaces from there already so hopefully they've made them even bigger!
Daniella: I am not alone in my love the Williamson cuff after all! Hurrah! You can't go wrong with jewellery that doubles as an offensive weapon.
Jessica: the sphere bangle is delicious isn't it? Very space age-y.

I liked the sphere MW bracelet too... I just didn't like Mischa's straw-like wiggish hair on that cover....

Yeah what was up that hair?? It looked like her wig had slipped too far down her forehead. It was a BAD cover..except for the bangle!

Ama, welcome to the Kingdom, we hope you become a loyal subject.
I'm afraid I don't live in London, so I couldn't advise you with regards to shops, as I'm only just getting to grips with London on my once yearly visit. But the beauty of London is the fact there is something wonderful around every corner! You won't want to come home again, of that I can assure you!
