Jazz shoes and brogues. You either love 'em or hate 'em. I, after a wee bit of convincing, now love them. My love affair began out of necessity because I needed a flat shoe which wasn't a ballet pump, because I can't stand the damn things.
I'm now wanting to push the boat forward and advance my brogue wearing. I want to up the anti as it were. Enter the high heeled brogue!
Ah, I can already hear Queen Marie's horrified gasps at the mere thought of such a terrible hybrid. But my love of a slightly weird shoe is well documented, so for me high heel + brogue = very interesting!
It doesn't actually have to be scary. The heel can be kitten like these variants from Office:

Or it can have a higher heel and look quite Victorian-esque, such as these ones as shown at Sportmax SS07:
For something altogether more masculine, then Dries Van Noten and Topshop have extended the traditional heel by several inches, staying truer to the brogue shape:
Personally, I'm loving the Sportmax and the Office versions. Both are super feminine but can easily slot in with any masculine silhouettes you have in your wardrobe.
Mmmm yes, I suspect I will be inspecting the high heel brogue very soon indeed...

I bought a cheap pair of these but they hurt my feet so bad (I will never make the mistake of going so cheap that the shoes aren't leather ever again) that I never wear them. I've been looking for a more upscale pair for a while but was worried that with all the spring & summer collections coming out, heeled brogues were going to get left in the dust. Thank God that's not the case.

We'll still see brogues for summer, but in canvas rather than leather and in lovely light colours. So fear not, your brogues will have a place in your summer wardrobe!

Pippa, brogues are everywhere now. Check asos.com, kurtgeiger.com for example for some seriously fierce high heeled brogues.

hey. i'm currently looking for some flat brogues - like you I hate the ballet pumps! Do you have any idea where I could look for some fairly traditional looking brogues/oxfords? I've gone to Church's but still find their women's range a bit chunky for my small 5"3 frame.

I had a pair of fantastic flat brogues in the eighties which were my pride and joy. They were off white and baby pink, leather upper and sole. The reason for the search the dog ate them (I jest thee not). I have searched for two tone ones ever since. Finally top shop came up with a not bad pair of flat brogues, unfortunately the uk 8's are out of stock and they arent even showing the two tones on line anymore, I've been thwarted again and beginning to feel desperate any help gratefully received

Re Search for two tone brogues
Check out Churches shoes, I saw a pair of ladies two tone brogues in there on Saturday, colourway was black and pewter or black and old gold
and they were in the sale! around £155 from £220- 240, worth it as very high quality and very well made!
Good luck
